It Coulda Been a Packard!

An exploded view of a DeLorean! This is an odd car for a Packard museum on the surface, but long before Back to the Future and even the prolific Pontiac GTO, John Zachary DeLorean was first employed by the Packard Motor Car Company. His task was redesigning the Packard Ultramatic transmission and even designed a limited slip differential! One of Detroit’s most interesting design men, his legacy is forever stamped in stainless steel.

What People Say about Their Visit to America’s Packard Museum

“America's Packard Museum is one of my favorite places to visit in Dayton. It's the best collection of classic Packard's anywhere and attracts car buffs to Dayton from all over the world. The Packards are beautiful and historic creations of automotive design down through the years and are well maintained and displayed. Even the setting has historic significance as a former Packard dealership. Rob Signom has done great work in revitalizing and updating the Museum to serve as a special venue for a variety of receptions, parties and community fundraisers right in downtown Dayton.”— Bob Taft, Distinguished Research Associate, University of Dayton; Governor of Ohio, 1999-2007

“This car museum is different: it's in a showroom and service center from the old days. Step inside and walk into a true time capsule. Cars are only one part of the story here. The furniture, lighting, flooring, and paint schemes have seemingly been simply dusted off throughout the years.” — Paul L.

“First visit today, and it was remarkable. The cars are in amazing shape, and it was wonderful exploring. Some of the cars have amazing histories. Bonus was the aircraft engines. Packard made them for WW1, World War 2 and even jet engines. I will be back again in the near future. Definitely worth return trips.” — Bob DeMarsh

“The museum is like stepping back in time. Music from the 1930's plays over the sound system as you wander around the museum. The Cars are magnificent as are the offices that were a part of the original dealership. If you like a retro vibe, this is the place for you!” — Kevin F

“I just went the other day with a family member who uses a wheelchair and the people at the museum brought out a ramp to get up to the main door since it us a few inches above the sidewalk. 10 for wheelchair accessibility! Cars are cool, staff were friendly and answered our questions about the cars, parking was easy.”— Lynsey J.
