1948: Calvin Mayne and Frank Sakada invest $500 each to open a fruit stand at the corner of Far Hills Ave. and Dorothy Lane in Kettering, Ohio. 1953: The first full-scale, brick-and-mortar store opens in Oakwood, Ohio. At 10,000 square feet, it was the largest grocery store in Dayton at the time.
