After World War II ended in 1945, Packard struggled to survive against the mass-production dominance of Detroit's Big Three. Relabeled post-war models gave way to controversial "bathtub" styling, followed by a desperate 1953 merger with Studebaker. The final true Detroit-built Packard rolled off the line in 1956 before the brand vanished completely.
